Pollinator Festival 2021!
In the beginning Debbie Burke and Karma Fitzgerald approached the board about helping to create a pollinator / community garden park. The District agreed to help look for grants and gather support for this park that we call the Pocket Park.
We began by reaching out to the University of Idaho, City of Shoshone, Lincoln County Commissioners, Chamber and more. We then wrote a proposal to include pollinator habitat and a community garden. It was submitted to many business and foundations in hopes they would approve funding. We were able to receive 3 grants in the amount of $15K. They were from Glanbia, Idaho Community Foundation and National Association of Conservation Districts.
We then began work with the For the Love of Growing garden club. We worked on a design for a watering system throughout the park and drip system for the community garden.
We then started planting trees, shrubs, flowers and pollinators working on a design for the park. We also had raised beds designed for the community to grow their own garden plot for those who didn't own their own ground or needed a nice area for planting. We would provide everything but the seed and they needed to weed it and maintain it.
We are in the third year of the Pocket Park and we are making progress.
This park was inspired by Debbie Burke who passed away in December of 2021. It is the Conservation Districts hope to continue with the Pollinator / Community Garden so spread the joy of gardening, bees and monarchs.
Thank you Debbie!

Pollinator Festival and Harvest Festival! Thank you to all those who helped prepare and set up for the festival. We had a students from Shoshone High School selling donuts, 4-H groups selling hotdogs and drinks. They also enjoyed local Bee keepers to Face painters and informational fun for the kids. We couldn't have done it without you! |
